Other Agriculture Highlights

Co-owner of a small family farm (160 acres) in Huntington County, Indiana.

Authored enabling legislation and provided ‘seed funding’ for Indiana’s early efforts in sustainable agriculture, aquaculture and organic food production.

Created the first comprehensive Farm Energy Program which served as a prototype for national initiatives for both the USDA and Department of Energy.

Created the Indiana Grain Standards Laboratory in compliance with NIST (National Institute for Science and Testing) and American Society of Agricultural Engineers efforts to improve accuracy in international grain shipping standards.

Created the first interstate Animal Disaster Emergency Program in the US with Purdue Veterinary School, in response to Hurricane Andrew in south Florida.

Active member of 4-H and Junior Leadership Programs as a youth while working on our family farm and other area farms.
